Betty Hudson, 83, of Dallas, TX, passed away peacefully from this life on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family. She will be remembered forever as a gracious and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all that knew and loved her.
Elizabeth Eugenia Upton Hudson (Betty) was born on January 17, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; graduated from the John Carroll High School and attended The University of Oklahoma. She moved to Dallas in 1950 with her grandparents. Betty was involved in many civic and cultural activities throughout her life and particularly active with the Dallas Civic Opera since its inception in 1959. Betty was President of the Opera Women’s Board, Chairman of the advisory board, founder of the Rotogravure committee and served as Chairman or Treasurer from 1962 until 1997. Betty received the Juanita and Henry S. Miller, Jr. Founders Award in 1998. She was an active member of TACA from its inception and a member of the Crystal Charity Ball. She was known for her hospitality and culinary expertise, her deep abiding love for her family and friends, and her passion for the outdoors, especially her beloved “Wonder Ranch” in Montana.
Betty is survived by her three children, Andrew Case Hudson and his daughter Sara Elizabeth Hudson; James Christian Custis Hudson, Juanita Swink Pipkins and their daughter Claire Elizabeth Hudson; Eugenia Hudson King and her husband Frank-Paul King and their sons Jonathan Scheurer King and Christian Hudson King; and her brother, Russell Van Upton, Jr. of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents Jessica Gertrude Rothhammer Upton and Russell Van Upton; brother James B. Upton; sister Mary Upton Tracey of Tulsa, Oklahoma — and her seventeen, much adored, faithful dogs.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to Kay and Gini for their dedicated loving care of Betty. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas TX 75225.
