TEWES, Elfriede Angelika Henkenborg – ELFRIEDE TEWES died Monday, November 5, 2018, in Plano, TX, at age 86, of complications from Alzheimer’s. Born on June 10, 1932, in Cloppenburg, Germany, she was the daughter of Bernard and Agnes Henkenborg. With a spirit of adventure and seeking a better life from post WWII Germany, Elfriede immigrated to America to live and work with family in Brooklyn. She was later joined by her soon-to-be husband, Bruno Tewes, and were married in 1956. Together they boldly began a new life together in the United States and started a family in Newburgh, NY. They moved to Denver, CO, in 1967, where Bruno expanded his business and Elfriede efficiently managed the home and family. Later, Bruno found a new business opportunity in El Paso, TX, and purchased CBM Systems, a successful hardware and software development company, where Elfriede managed finance and accounting. They later retired and moved to Sun City, AZ, and Denver, and Bruno started SPE Services, serving numerous manufacturers. Although Elfriede was not the loudest in the room, everyone knew who she was and wanted to be with her. It was in Elfriede’s nature to make sure everyone was comfortable and well fed. She had a deep love for her family and friends and her counsel was always sought. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Karen Tewes Whitaker, Christina Tewes Schneider, Heidi Tewes Johnson, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sons-in-law Warren Whitaker, Michael Schneider, and Patrick Johnson, her sister Irmgard Neekamp, brothers Benno and Eric Henkenborg. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Bruno Tewes, and brothers Antonius and Hubert Henkenborg. She came to this country with nothing but a dream and made a home and so much more. We love and will miss her. A memorial mass will be held Friday, November 9, 2018, 1:30pm at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas, TX, to celebrate her life.
