Elaine Frances (Suttie) Nevitt, devoted matriarch of the Nevitt family, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of April 11, 2018. She was born in Chicago, IL on April 1, 1931, the only child of Frank and Effie Suttie. Elaine spent her early years growing up in Milwaukee, WI and Muskegon, MI before moving with her parents and maternal grandmother to Norwood, MA during WWII. After the war, Elaine and her parents moved to San Antonio, TX where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School then on to Oklahoma University where she was a member of the Theta Gamma Chapter of Delta Delta Delta.
After attending OU, Elaine met her husband Joe back home in San Antonio while both were working in the oil and gas industry. They married on December 27, 1952 just 3 days before Joe was called back to active duty as a Marine fighter pilot during the Korean War. Following the war, they returned home to San Antonio, started a small manufacturing business and began their family with sons, Mark, Matt & John.
In 1957, Elaine and Joe moved to Dallas, TX, joined St. Pius X Catholic Church, continued to build their business and continued to grow their young family, adding 7 more children; Renee, Tom, David, Roxanne, Nancy, Jim and Andrew.
Elaine was active in all aspects of her children’s school and church activities at St. Pius X and Bishop Lynch High School and expressed on many occasions how wonderful those years were and how those years created so many special memories. While raising her children, Elaine worked at Bishop Lynch High School for 4 years in the business office before launching a successful real estate sales career that spanned almost 30 years.
Despite her business success, Elaine always felt her greatest accomplishment and love was her family. She was especially proud of her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses and her great-grandchildren. Spending time with them gave her great joy and was the highlight of her life.
Elaine passed away on April 11, just 10 days after celebrating her 87th birthday with her family on Easter Sunday. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Suttie and Euphemia (Effie) Scott Suttie , her husband of 59 years, Joseph (Joe) V. Nevitt and her daughter, Amy Roxanne Nevitt. Elaine leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Mark Nevitt (Flo), Matt Nevitt (Kathy), John Nevitt (Valerie), Renee Davis (Gib), Tom Nevitt, David Nevitt, Nancy Keller (Victor), Jim Nevitt (Susie) and Andrew Nevitt (Wendy). In addition, Elaine has 25 grandchildren: Joshua Nevitt, Justin Nevitt (Heather), Mark Jr., Matthew Nevitt (Christine), Adam Nevitt (Jessica), Amy Hill (Chris), Austin Nevitt, Rheana Pigeols (Greg), Michael T. Nevitt (Sarah), Paul Nevitt, Nick Davis, Scott Davis, Anna Oddo (Evan), Thomas Nevitt, Abbey Nevitt, Nicole Kolb, Taylor Kolb, Jacqueline Keller, Kirsten Keller, John Keller, Lauren O’Quinn (Patrick), Michael S. Nevitt (fiancé Lauren), Danielle Nevitt, Drew Nevitt, Walter Nevitt, Adair Nevitt, and was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren: Harrison Nevitt, Grant Nevitt, Dean Nevitt, Audrey Nevitt, Luke Nevitt, Colton Nevitt, Connor Nevitt, Benjamin Nevitt, Sean Nevitt, Vivienne Nevitt, Addie Hill, Bo Hill, Joe Hill, Emma Pigeols, Catherine Pigeols, Mason Nevitt and Grace Nevitt. Elaine is also survived by her niece, Karol Kreymer (Bob Card, M.D.) of Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates any expressions of love for Elaine to be made to the Joe and Elaine Nevitt Scholarship Fund at Bishop Lynch High School, 9750 Ferguson Rd., Dallas, TX 75228, Attn: Chuck Rothermel.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18th, 6:00 to 8:00 pm with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm at Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Rd., Dallas, TX. The Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Elaine’s life, will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 19th at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd. Dallas, TX, Rev. Seán Charles Martin, S.T.L.,S.T.D. celebrant. Following the Mass, a luncheon will be hosted by the family at Knights of Columbus Hall, 10110 Shoreview Rd., Dallas, TX.
Interment will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX at 3:30 pm.
