Edward “Ed” John Jaster, 63, of Dallas, TX, passed away February 25, 2024 of pancreatic cancer. Ed was surrounded by his family, friends, and partner leading up to his passing and until his final moments. Even in his last days, Ed was thinking most about those he loved and his passions such as work and Art, fishing, and luxury cars; until he could no longer fight his battle with cancer and left the physical world to rest in peace.
Ed was born August 20, 1960 to the late Edward and Constance Jaster in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Illinois in 1978 and attended college for some time at The Art Institute of Chicago, which both of his parents attended as well and met while in school. On November 19, 2016, Ed married Crystal Barton in Palm Springs, CA, and they were married until Crystal’s passing in 2017.
In Ed’s work life, there was nothing stopping Ed from being the absolute best he could. Ed owned an art firm before starting at Heritage Auctions in 2002 where he worked for almost 22 years, attributing to breaking multiple records in his field along with finishing his career as Senior Vice President. Immensely driven, his work ethic was unmatched and the expertise and care he took in his field was shown not only by the deals he was able to make, but by the relationships he formed along the way with many of the people he worked with. Ed was a mentor to not only his children, but also took time to mentor others he became close friends with at Heritage Auctions. Countless work trips, conferences, deals, auctions; all of which Ed enjoyed until his final days.
Ed's love of his friends and family was unparalleled, and there was truly nothing he wouldn't do to support them. Genuinely, Ed wanted the best for everyone close to him. He had a strong love for fishing, which he passed on to those he loved. If he wasn't working, there was a strong chance he had a line in. Ed enjoyed himself an extravagant dessert or sports car, depending on how he felt at the time. Ed's love and passion for life will live on, and while he will be sorely missed, his legacy will be carried on by anyone who loved him.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Madeleine Jaster and Courtney Coke, both of Portland, OR; son, Wilson Coke of Dallas, TX; sister, Jackie Beinlich of Chicago, IL; and his beloved dog, Daisy Mae Jaster, who is lovingly being cared for by Madeleine. Ed is preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Jaster.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider making a donation to The Salvation Army, Ed’s favorite charity where he spent time volunteering.
A memorial service for Edward will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
