Born in Ivanhoe, Texas on February 28, 1926 to Roy Lee and Nettie Louann (Eason) Greenlee. She was the 3rd born of 8 children, and the first girl. She had 1 sister and 6 brothers. Her family lived in rural Fannin County, Texas and often earned their living following the cotton crops, picking cotton. Edith was a joyful child who grew to become a mother figure to her younger siblings. She loved to play outdoors and help her Mama with chores. She graduated from Ivanhoe High School and belonged to the Methodist Church.
On March 9, 1944, Edith married George Russell Lewis, a Methodist pastor. Devoted to each other, they remained married 49 years, until his death December 2, 1993. Never were children more loved, than the three daughters born to this union. Her family came first in her life and she loved being at home more than anywhere else. Edith spent her life as a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother.
She was well known as a loving, sincere, devoted follower of Jesus Christ, who loved to help others. She was an avid reader of the Bible and listened to Southern Gospel Music all the time! In the last years of her life she attended Watermark Community Church in Dallas with her daughter and grandchildren. Always forgiving, Edith always found the best in everyone. She was so much loved by all who knew her, especially her family.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Husband and 3 brothers, Wayne, Ralph and Earl Greenlee. All of who joyously waited for her!
She is survived by daughters, Bebie Bone (Ronald) of Dallas, Susan Shaddock of Raleigh, NC, Sandra Hill of Des Moines, IA.; Grandchildren, Ron Bone, Jr. (Kerry) of Frisco, TX, Chris Bone (Lacey) of Dallas, Ronna Brooks (Carl) of Balch Springs, Gioia Bliss (Keith) of Raleigh, NC., Daniel Hill of Seattle, WA., John Hill of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Farmer of Denver, CO.; brothers Doyle Greenlee (Charlsey) of Frisco, TX.; Frank Greenlee (Jo Ellen) of Duncanville, TX.; Donald Greenlee (Frances) of Wills Point, TX.; sisters-in-law, Betty Greenlee of Duncanville, TX.; Ludean Greenlee of Denison, TX.; plus a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
