Easter Nell Bowman-Sandle was the thirteenth child born to Mary and Walter Bowman in Palestine, Texas. Easter went to school and graduated. After graduation she spent a small time in Detroit, Michigan, and then moved to Waco, Texas, for a few years. Mrs. Sandle then moved to Lubbock, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Floyd E. Sandle. The Sandles began their family in Lubbock with five children being born to their union. She raised Dorothy, Floyd Jr., Lawrence, David and Minnie. In the late 1950s she decided to leave Lubbock and made a new start in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas, and has remained a pillar in her community. Mrs. Sandle was well-known in her community as a woman of faith and she loved to care for others, especially children. Easter worked for the Dallas Independent School District as a cook. She also worked at Crystal Hill Nursing Home as a caretaker. After she retired, she began to work as a foster grandmother for many different child care agencies. She joined the Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Texas. She was also awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2002. Easter was a praying woman and true woman of God. She became a member of Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church and then she joined New El Bethel Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful and dedicated member for over fifty years. Easter was an advocate in the church, always willing to help and give a helping hand. She served on the Usher Board, planned church outings, and maintained the appearance of the church. On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, in the evening hours, Mrs. Sandle’s fight was over, and she transitioned to her new home over in Zion. She was welcomed with open arms by her mother and father; husband, Floyd; sons, Floyd Jr., Lawrence and David; and her five brothers and seven sisters. Easter leaves her legacy of love, hope, joy and peace to her daughters, Dorothy Sandle-Rose and Minnie Nell Sandle; two grandchildren, Deniece Thibodeaux and Byron Sandle; two great-grandchildren, Destiney Sandle and Aubrey Thibodeaux; and a host of nieces, nephews and Christian friends.
