Earl I. Jones, 84, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother & friend to all that knew and loved him. His faith in Jesus Christ provides the family with peace, knowing that he is now in his Heavenly home.
Earl was born on August 16, 1928 in Vernon, Texas. After graduating from Vernon High School, he attended Stephen F. Austin University to begin his undergraduate work. His college studies were interrupted so he could serve his country in both the Air Force and the Army, including service during the Korean War. He received numerous honors in the military, including the American Spirit Honor Medal in 1951. Upon retiring from military service, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree at Southern Methodist University. His professional career with several companies culminated as President and CEO of Texstar Plastics for 25 years. Earl was also proud to serve as a Mason and a Shriner. He retired in 1992 to enjoy his family, play golf, cards and watch Westerns. He was also a member of Royal Oaks Country Club and University Park United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Jones of Dallas; his son Lindy Jones and wife, Kathy of Dallas; his son Layne Jones of Grand Prairie; his daughter Shelley Hollingshead and husband, TD of Grand Prairie; his son Lance Jones and wife, Wendi of Dallas; and Jeanette’s daughter, Terri Bass and husband, Steve of Coppell; and Jeanette’s son Art Roberts, Jr. and wife, Terri of Rio Vista. He is also survived by his sister, Henrietta Hightower of Grand Prairie. Granddaddy Earl/Pop-Pop was well loved by his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Brandi Johnson and husband Evan and their children, Mack and Miles of Austin; Heather Moreno and husband, Ronnie of Cedar Hill; Ty Jones and wife, Jessica and their children, Beau and Logan of Dallas; Justin Hollingshead and wife, Christy of Waco; Barrett and Breuer Bass of Coppell; and Savanna and Sierra Jones of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Rockie Jones of Vernon; his brother Cecil “Zeke” Jones of Ruidoso, NM; and granddaughter Megan Jones of Dallas. He is also survived by many friends that he treated as family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Blvd., Dallas at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home at 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 6:00-8:00 pm. A private Entombment Committal service for immediate family will be held prior to the Memorial service.
