Bishop Dwain C. Thompson, Sr. was born on December 25, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of the late Mr. Walter Thompson, Sr. and Mrs. Clotee (Phinisee) Thompson. He was the third of five children. His parents later relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he later matriculated from the Milwaukee Public School System. Bishop Thompson accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age at St. Mary Baptist Church and later he acknowledged and chose to follow the clarion call of God upon his life in the mid 70's, with the guidance of his leader(s), the late Rev. R.L. Lathan and the late Bishop P. Henderson. He relocated to Dallas, Texas to attend Bishop College to prepare and equip him for the work of the ministry. He met the former Ms. Cheryl Lewis, who captivated his heart and affection, they married on September 18, 1982 and four children was added to this union, James Lewis, Shaneta Cole, Jameshia Lewis, Dwain Thompson Jr. While attending Bishop College, he accepted a position as Minister of Music and musician at the Fellows Lane Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas. Upon the resignation of the current pastor, Bishop Thompson was appointed and unanimously elected as senior pastor of the Fellows Lane Missionary Baptist Church. Many souls were saved under his pastorate, he sincerely believed in helping those that were less fortunate and in need. Not only was he a prolific preacher, he was a gifted and accomplished musician and psalmist, such so that the “D.C. Thompson Ensemble” was created in his honor. In 1993, he was elected and consecrated to the Bishopric in the United Council of Christian Churches under the auspices of Bishop John E. Sherriff of Los Angeles, California. Knowing clearly that God had a different plan and vision for his ministry, Bishop Thompson resigned as pastor of the Fellows Lane Church in 1995. He founded the Miracle Temple Church of Deliverance, Inc. in January 1996. In May of 1996, he birthed the Worldwide Pentecostal Deliverance Fellowship, an apostolic covering for churches and para-ministries throughout the country. He orchestrated and held an annual conference entitled “In His Presence Conference” which was a highlighted event in the DFW metroplex area. In January 1998, he started another church, Miracle Temple Church of Deliverance in Rockford, Illinois as well as returning to Milwaukee to begin work there. With the five-fold ministry at work in his life, Bishop Thompson was a contemporary ministry on the “cutting edge” of the 21st century. His visionary mandate was to stir up ministry gifts in the Body of Christ, equipping men and women for Kingdom service and spiritual warfare, thus, bringing them to a depth of knowledge, revelation, and maturity in the things of God so as to effectuate the culmination of the unfinished task of preparing a bride adorned for her groom. Bishop Thompson was awarded several academic accomplishments including a Certificate of Ministry from the D. Edward Johnson School of Ministry and received a Doctorate degree in Theological Studies from Vision International University of Pomona, California. Bishop Thompson was previously active with several ecumenical and progressive ministries throughout the country espousing the belief that ministry cannot be limited to the church, nor preaching relegated to the pulpit. He served as National General Secretary to the Apostolic College of Bishops of the United Council of Christian Churches International under the leadership of Bishop John E. Sheriff. He also served as Regional Coordinator of the Ministerial Alliance of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Churches of Texas under the leadership of Bishop Larry D. Leonard, Sr. Regional Bishop and Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr. Presiding Bishop. He served as Assistant Secretary on the Board of Bishops for the Louisiana State Council Fellowship, APF under the leadership of the late Bishop Lee Arthur Fields. Bishop Thompson was a faithful member of Jonathan’s Seed where he was a covenant partner. He was a loyal and faithful pastor of the PMCA Fellowship under the auspices of his spiritual father, Apostle Sherman C. Gee Allen until his health decline. Bishop Thompson has matriculated numerous social honors and awards to include: Young Men Christian Association, Who’s Who in America. In 1994, Bishop Thompson was honored by the mayor of Dallas, Mayor Steve Bartlett, for his persistent help with the homeless of Dallas, as well as, his continued help with the HIV-infected patients of Parkland County Hospital Systems. On the morning of Tuesday, November 24, 2015, Bishop Thompson made his triumphant entrance and transition from this earthly life to eternal life surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Thompson, Sr., and his nephew Jody Thompson. Bishop Thompson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother but most of all he was a faithful pastor and servant. Those left to carry on his legacy and cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 33 years, Pastor Cheryl Lewis Thompson; two sons, James Lewis, and Dwain Thompson Jr. (De’Aundria); two daughters, Jameshia Lewis, and Shaneta Cole; maternal mother, Clotee (Phinisee) Thompson; mother in law, Elizabeth Lewis; one sister, Sharon Thompson; three brothers, Walter Thompson, Jr., Larry Thompson, Vincent B.
