Dustin was always the smartest guy in the room.  What was so amazing about Dustin is that he had no trace of an ego and was even kinder than he was smart - a truly incredible person. 

I was lucky enough to be Dustin's classmate from elementary through high school.  I can remember Dustin memorizing encyclopedias at a very early age.  Teachers and friends lovingly referred to him as "Genius".  Dustin knew astonishing detail about all facets of science, military history, submarines, computers, how things worked, etc.  We would learn something in class and nearly everyone was just skimming the surface to learn what was needed for the test.  Dustin would truly understand the greater meaning of what we were studying and how it interconnected to a larger world. It was amazing to watch smart people, including teachers, consistently come to Dustin for answers.

For a dozen or so years, I saw Dustin nearly every day and I don't remember him saying an unkind word to anyone.  It was remarkable.  From a very early age Dustin was so smart and so above petty arguments that it stood out amongst his peers. Thanks to his parents, Dustin knew what truly mattered in this world and always carried himself with integrity and a genuine interest in helping others.  I know Dustin is in a better place now, but the world lost one of its kindest/smartest souls.

Dustin - I will always remember you as one of the smartest and kindest souls I ever met. I am honored to say I was your classmate from K-12. May you rest in peace friend.

Rest in Peace Dustin, our Jesuit brotherhood is an eternal bond. May you join our fellow classmates in eternal glory.

I don't think anyone from our high school class at Jesuit could match the raw intellect and wide ranging knowledge that Dustin possessed.  His unassuming nature may have masked his intelligence and creativity, but those who got a chance to know him understood how wonderfully smart and talented he was.  I still remember when he taught a couple of our AP Physics classes because he knew the material better than any of the students or the teacher.  Yet despite these extraordinary gifts, it was his humility and genuine kindness that struck me most of all.  He never flaunted his intelligence.  He was incredibly generous with his time whenever I asked him for help.  He was always more collaborative than competitive and he got along with everybody.  Dustin, wish we got a chance to connect more after high school.  You will be sorely missed.

I met Dustin years ago online and remember having some of the most insightful conversations with him about our shared interests. Although as time went on we lost contact, I still remember those conversations fondly and wish there could have been more.

Dustin, from your voracious reading in grade school, to your excellence in academics in high school, to our freshman honors computer science course in college where we both got so excited about Linux, I will miss you my friend.   In particular, I will miss your wit, intelligence, kind and gentle spirit and contributions to the Linux gaming community.  Thank you for being yourself - always genuine.  Blessings to you on your continued journey in this next phase. 

Dustin was one of my closest friends and I’ll miss him dearly. We worked together on the LinuxGames website, podcast, and shared many interests. I’m thankful for the times we shared together and wish there were still more. 

Dustin was so kind, compassionate, smart and funny. The world is worse without him.

Dustin was one of my closest friends for close to 25 years online. He was one of the smartest but also kindest and most thoughtful people I've ever known. Knowing him made me a better person. The world is a better place for having had him in it, even if it was for far too short a time.

There are many of us who never met Dustin in person, and yet we share your grief.  Even online, his wit, charm, and intelligence were readily apparent; his passion and enthusiasm for his many interests were infectious and inspiring.  He made quick friends of us all, and we will long remember his kindness, his compassion, his humor, and his joy for life.

Our hearts are with you all, and we hope you take some small comfort in knowing that your grief at Dustin's passing is shared by many more people than you know.

A kind and brilliant man, and a true friend to those who need help. His curiosity and compassion were inspiring. I'll miss you, Dustin.
