You're always in my thoughts and in my heart. Several things happened the past few weeks, that I'm sure you would have enjoyed hearing about....a lovely note from Pansy, who's become my e-mail "pen pal", and the unexpected flood that surrounded my home, again! Also, I'm writing a story about Mother and me to be published in March 2014. It's an anthology book by Powerful You! Publishing and offers a Writer's training program and provides editing and marketing for the Story Authors. This will be my first published writing and hopefully, there will be more. It's Sunday, June 25, 2012. I'm missing my Mother's dear friend, Dorothy,and would like to share our story..... She was mostly a childhood memory for me, until I unexpectantly became an "adult child" caregiver. We reconnected due to my Mother's medical issues in 2004. Then she became "my" best friend. She and my Mother, Virginia, had known one another in their young adult years. Dorothy loved to tell me stories of their teenage days and Mother's mischief. My Mother would get this, "Don't tell that" look on her face, then we'd laugh together until we'd cry! 
In 2006, I was told my Mother's medical decline was irreversible, so I 
moved her from Texas to Florida to personally manage her care. Dorothy kept in touch with me several times a week for years, and often sent articles from the Dallas newspapers relating to personal interest we shared. Because of Dorothy's supportive friendship and medical guidance, my Mother's day to day diagnosis became six more wonderful years together. 
Last year everything changed.... 
My  Mother "passed"  May 2011, then Dorothy "passed" in Dec 2011, after a brief illness. Loosing her was unexpected to all her knew and loved her. Now and then, something happens to remind me, Dorothy is still near by ....Especially, a few months ago, this became so "real", when I was sorting through personal papers and found several Dallas newspaper artcles she sent me in 2010. The articles related to a 1950 photo of "Mr. Stanley Marcus with two unidentified models", that she had seen on several occassions in the Dallas Morning News. Dorothy insisted one of the models was my Mother, since she had worked at Neiman's as Mr.Lawrence's Secretary in the 1950's. October 2010, an article written by Pansy Privitt Johnson attached to this photo, appeared in "Stories", part of a Special Edition for the 125th Anniversary of the Dallas Morning News.
Pansy was identifying herself as one of "the unidentified models" with her personal story of that day in 1950. When I showed my Mother the photo,she smiled to confirm her memory of "that" day...I shared this with Dorothy, and she was so happy to know the photo had made her friend smile! Then I put the articles away with other special memory items. Last month...the story of the photo continued, when I re-read the article from 2010, written by Pansy, "one" of the models. I began researching to locate her or her family,and tell them my Mother is the other "model" in the photo. After several months, I found Pansy's son, and he told me his Mother was now 81yrs old and gave me her phone#. Since we spoke, we've been emailing regularly and hope to get the "historic records" changed to re-title "The Stanley Marcus photo with  two unidentified models", acknowledging their names. Whatever happens, I know Dorothy is smiling right now,and my Mother is with her dear friends, Dorothy and Dick Johnson. I have to wonder why I didn't search for Pansy two years ago, when we could have celebrated this "joyful" reunion together. How fun it would be to call Dorothy right now, and make plans for us to meet for Luncheon in Dallas with Pansy! Wonder what Dorothy and Mother are planning for my next  surprise? This story makes my heart smile, knowing a friendship connection is forever......If anyone else reads it, hopefully they'll smile, too, then share "their" story. I'm sure, Dorothy is "watching over" everyone, like usual! Perhaps, writing such a long message in Dorothy's Guest Book isn't "proper", although, Dorothy and I did have very long phone visits! My sympathy to Dorothy's family.  I was so saddened to hear of her death.  After twenty years of working together and friendship, I will miss her wonderful personality.

Today I received an email notification, that Dorothy Johnson's Guest Book will no longer be online after Jan.17th,2012. This saddens me, because I know Dorothy inspired "everyone" who knew her and we all miss her so much! Whether we knew her for a minute or a lifetime, she became a devoted friend forever. Every word she spoke was sincere, honest, loving, encouraging... and every conversation shared was "a gift" from Dorothy. This Guest Book offers each of us the opportunity to express our appreciation for Dorothy's friendship by sharing our personal stories with one another....as well as the forever memories of joy and laughter that Dorothy has given us...If only there were a way to notify "everyone" who knew Dorothy of this online connection, the stories and memories could continue to inspire lives. She was one of my role models as a student nurse at St.Paul Hospital '57-'60. 
So sorry to read of her passing.

Dorothy was such a sweet lady.  I really enjoyed working with her at DP&L and continued a friendship seeing her at the Energy Plus meetings.  She will be missed.

Dorothy was our industrial health nurse at DP&L and TXU. She was the quintessential caregiver! The memories evoke laughter of how she kept it fun while providing sound medical and life advice.  While sharing the limited opportunities she had as a young woman, she always encouraged me as a young minority female to seize the moment.  Although I had not talked to her in a while, she is forever in my heart as one of life's treasures.  What a wonderful legacy she left for the Johnson family!

Dorothy always kept Charlie and Greg in line. If I needed something done; I always went to her...she would be all over Charlie.
The pain and suffering is now over. You will be greatly missed. Say hello to Mom...you two were tough ladies.

Dorothy and Dick Johnson shared a special lifelong friendship with my Mother, Virginia Leech, and my Uncle and Aunt (Mac/Louie and Suzanne Leech). Through my childhood, she remained a devoted family friend.  
Dorothy was always concerned about everyone else, more than herself. The last ten years she's been by my side every step of the way during my Mother's medical decline. We enjoyed sharing family stories from the past and the present. She's been my best friend and an inspiration to me and all who knew her. It's been "an honor" to know Dorothy, and be loved by her. I'll forever cherish our friendship...We all miss her already, although thoughts of Dorothy make our hearts smile!

Sweet, Sweet Grandma Dot...I still can't believe it. You will continue to be greatly missed, although I know you walk with us. I'm happy I was blessed enough to know you.
