Doris Jean Richards (Fielding), was born July 10, 1938, at home on Sulphur St., Dallas, TX. She grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Crozier Tech in 1956. As the youngest of 9 children, her older siblings would say she was spoiled. Mama told one of her sisters, “I didn’t spoil myself, I just accepted it from y’all.”
At the age of 11, Doris realized her need of a Savior and asked Jesus into her heart. Thus began her Christian journey that she never strayed from. God was her constant companion. She taught Sunday school, had her daily devotions, was the “card lady” at church and a faithful prayer warrior! She was a diligent witness for Christ! She shared the Gospel with everyone she met. She was known for saying, “God’s angels all around you!” after every conversation. Doris’ love for Jesus shone through her love and concern for people and their souls. She was an awesome example of the Proverbs 31:10-31 woman. Her life verse was Proverbs 3: 5-6 and she lived that out until God called her home.
Doris was a stay at home “Mom” for many years. She went to work for and retired from Southwestern Bell in 2001. She was a faithful member of Galilean Baptist Church since 1972. She loved her church family!
Preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson Fielding & Irene Marcia (Whitten) Fielding. Her brothers, Ernest (Ernie), Joe, Elvis & Billy Fielding. Her sisters, Lorene Chester, Della Parham & Dorothy Pannell. Her husband, Gordon Richards.
Survived by her grateful children, Rhonda Vaughn, Arvel “Sonny” Vaughn, Sharon (Tony) Apple & Glenn Vaughn. Brother James (Jimmy) Fielding. Stepson Mike Richards. 12 grandchildren & 18 great-grandchildren! Many nieces, nephews & friends.
Mama will be missed by the many she touched! Just remember her saying, “God’s angels all around you!”
