Doris Plough Metz died September 7, 2017 at the age of 97. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 12, 1920. She was the daughter of Rhetta and Barney Plough and the oldest of 3 siblings. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She met her husband, Joseph Metz, when they were 15 years old, and they dated until they married on June 14, 1943. They never spent a New Year’s Eve apart for 81 years. Doris and Joseph Metz celebrated 74 years of marriage. They have lived in Dallas, Texas since 1963. Doris loved being with her family, and she had wonderful, loving friends. She always wrote the most beautiful hand-written thank you notes and letters, and she remembered her family and friends on all their special occasions. She kept the postal service in business. Doris and Joe have been charitable throughout their lifetime, always giving to those in need. They cared for the homeless through the Vogel Alcove, made sure children from Temple Emanu-El were supported through the Metz Youth Fund, helped Baylor hospital to aid children who needed facial surgery, provided seeing eye dogs for the blind, and made sure Native American children had an opportunity to go to college. She enjoyed her involvement with Temple Sisterhood and the Council of Jewish Women. Doris shared her wisdom by story-telling and was passionate about collecting recipes and tracing the genealogy of her ancestors. She brought light and happiness into our world, and her presence is sorely missed. Doris’ devoted family includes her husband, Joseph Metz, her children, Allan and Ellen Metz and Gloria and Steven Simon, her grandchildren, Corey Metz, Karlyn and Grant Herlitz, Jeremy Simon, and Brett Simon, and her great grandchildren, Jessica, Jasmine, and Katelyn Herlitz and Olivia and Scarlett Metz. The family wants to extend a very special thank you to Doris' beloved caregivers, Liza Johnson, Stephanie Hunter, Finda Conte, Henrietta Arnold & Katie Davis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Metz Youth Fund at Temple Emanu-El in Dallas, Texas. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El at Lefkowitz Chapel.
