Donald “Pops” Kirkpatrick, 88 of Mesquite, TX, passed away on January 23rd. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with the funeral service commencing at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 28th at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
Don was born in Gunter, TX on January 31, 1931. He was one of thirteen graduates of the Gunter High School Class of 1949.
Don was married to Doris Kirkpatrick on November 1, 1962; they were happily married for 57 years.
Don proudly served as a Police Officer for the Dallas Police Department for 28 years. He loved having breakfast every Wednesday with his buddies from the DPD. Multiple times a week Don loved playing bridge with his wife Doris and their close friends. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, summer days at the lake, and spending time with his friends and family.
Don is survived by his wife Doris Kirkpatrick, daughters and their husbands Rhonda and Randy Mince, Barbara and Don Kline, grandchildren and spouses Jennie Beth and Joey Hoffmann, Kelly and Shanda Hill, Caitlin and Gracie Kline-Martinez, Chase Kline and Harper Hendon, sisters Jean Akins and Jo Hunter, and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Walter “Bud” and Vivian Kirkpatrick.
Our Pops loved to talk and never met a stranger. We will miss his laugh, his sense of humor, his stories, and most of all the huge presence he had in all of our lives.
