Don L. Hicks, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 16, 2016. He was born on August 11, 1932 in Marietta, OK to Delbert and Lucille Hicks. Don Hicks received his bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian College. He was a Church of Christ minister for 30+ years. During his time in the ministry Don served the Lord God with complete devotion in various congregations throughout Texas and Oklahoma. He was a steward of Christ in that he always exemplified his willingness to make himself available to all those in need and served unselfishly when called upon. As a minister he wrote many sermons and devotions that inspired and uplifted those around him. Besides serving as a minister, he was involved in countless efforts to support the community in any way possible. Don served as a Dallas City Councilman for 2 terms and also served as Mayor Pro Tem of Dallas. Then was the Executive Director for Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians for 30 years and retired in December of 2014. Don served on various boards including the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce, Amberton University, Cedar Green Living Center and Dallas Independent School District. He was also a member of the Oak Cliff Lions Club since 1969. Don married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Trout, on June 4, 1954. He and Shirley served the Lord together in their marriage until she passed away in 1998. Don is survived by his children Deanna Bansuelo and husband Joseph, Sharon Hernandez and husband Ricky, and David Hicks and wife Shannon; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren, his twin sister Dorothy and brother James; his nieces and nephews and the rest of his family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association. The family of Don Hicks wishes to thank the Vitas Hospice Healthcare, Midlothian Nursing Home, and Midtowne Assisted Living as well as Creekside Church of Christ.
