Delbert Louis Griffin Jr (Louis) was born July 3rd 1931 and went to be with his Lord Jesus on December 4th 2021 at the age of 90. He was born in Dallas, Tx and shortly after was welcomed into this family by Delbert Louis Griffin Sr and Minnie Edmonds Griffin. He grew up in Odessa, Tx and graduated from Odessa High School where he ran track. He ran the ½ mile, the 440 and the sprint relay. He broke a bone in his foot the first time he ran on a cinder track in Abilene, Tx. He also went to the Texas state finals in track. Louis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at FBC Odessa and was baptized there. His parents owned The Griffin Hotel in Odessa and after “Louis” graduated high school they sold the hotel and bought a farm in Stephenville, Tx. Louis studied at Tarleton and was in the ROTC there . He served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1966. After his father passed away Louis and his mother moved to Dallas where he began work at The Texas Dept of Highways and Public Transportation as a surveyor and worked there until he retired. Louis was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Garland and served there as a usher / greeter and on many committees. After Calvary became part of Lake Point he joined Lake Highlands Baptist in Dallas and in his later years Hillcrest Baptist of Kemp, Tx. Louis was an avid Cowboys fan; loved his family dearly; and was an amazing steward of all the resources God had given him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives: Wanda Hyman Griffin and Mary Vondette Griffin. His son David Louis Griffin and grandson Stephen Wallace Layton.
Louis is survived by His children Douglas Mark Griffin, Deborah Sue Griffin - Munro husband Steve; Donald Hyman Griffin wife Rima; Robert Hasselbush wife Judy and Willian Hasselbush wife Donna. Grandchildren: Sage Giles, Jacqueline and Austin Griffin; Bethany Griffin and Rebecca Munro; Scotty Layton; Tasha Hathaway and Codi Gutschenritter; Randy Hasselbush and Kristy Ard; Jericho and Jordan Hasselbush. Numerous great grandchildren, friends and family.
