Dean Flagg Magee, born July 9, 1981, passed away on December 7, 2023, at his home in Dallas. At the time of his death, Dean was employed at PostNet as a social engineering specialist where he had earned several specialized certifications in design and advertising.
A 2006 graduate of St. Edwards University in Austin, Dean lived most of his life in Texas and was happiest when he had the chance to spend time outdoors. He loved the mountains, rivers, and wildlife, and once had a job introducing tenderfoots to the joy of kayaking with short river runs. Throughout his life, he enjoyed taking photographs of nature, and had an eye that could perfectly capture and frame a breath-taking scene. As might be expected, he was an enthusiastic Boy Scout, and earned his rank as an Eagle Scout in his senior year at Highland Park High School.
In addition to his professional work, Dean became a state licensed peer recovery specialist, and volunteered his services to fellow pilgrims, particularly those at The Bridge, a homeless recovery center. He was also an active member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Squadron TX-391, a humanitarian outreach of the U.S. Air Force which aids in search and rescue missions, as well as disaster relief. As a member of CAP, he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant and was honored at his second awards ceremony with the “V” pin for his valor.
Those who knew him best, valued his big heart and his dry sense of humor, which brought light to the otherwise mundane situations of life. He was one-of-kind, compassionate and strong; he will be sorely missed by those who had the good fortune to share his journey.
He is survived by his parents: William and Sally Magee of Dallas, Texas; his brother, Wheeler Magee, Stovall Ranch, Montana; his niece and nephew Molly and Grady Magee of Maine; an aunt and uncle, Robert and Nancy Heller of San Antonio and cousins, Loren and Ridley Heller and their daughter, Leighton, of Dallas; Joy and Andrew Heller and sons, Ferris and Hank of San Antonio, as well as his beloved godmother, Peggy Carr; Civil Air Patrol mentor, Tex Collins, and Marta Hernandez, his “second mother,” and a long time employee of the Magee family.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 2p.m. at Saint Michael and All Angels, Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow in the church parlor.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, https://www.bridgehrc.org or to the Civil Air Patrol, Squadron TX-391, https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com
