David Truitt affectionately known as “Dave, Yogi Yogi, and Killa” was born on March 29, 1946 to Zola Allison and John Edgar “Reb” Truitt in Hermanville Mississippi at home. He was the fourteenth child of twenty-one children. He attended Addison High School in Port Gibson, Mississippi.
David and his siblings were taught about GOD at an early age. His father was a pastor in the local community, who built many community alliances to help those in need. His mother assisted with various church responsibilities when she wasn’t devoting her time to caring for the family.
David was raised in the midst of a loving family on the Plantation in Port Gibson, Mississippi. He learned to cook, help to look after his siblings, and help around the house at an early age to contribute to the household. As he grew older he contributed to the family income by working in the fields along with his family until he joined the United States Army at seventeen years of age.
David met the love of his life, Annie “Ann” Mary Felder, when he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas working as a 92 Golf Culinary Specialist in the United States Army.
David married Ann in Killeen, Texas. They had two daughters ShuVon “Shon” Felder-Truitt and Kahalia Tunshia Truitt who completed their family. David was discharged as a Vietnam Veteran from the military and they decided to settle down and reside in Killeen.
He worked various jobs to include a cook, construction, until retirement as an employee of Central Moving and Storage and Allied Moving Company in 1999.
He resided in Killeen, TX until 2006, when he relocated along with wife and oldest daughter ShuVon to Barstow, California to enjoy being with his youngest daughter Kahalia Tunisha Anderson, and son-in-law Johnnie Lee Anderson Jr. during this time he assisted them in raising his grandson Rolando Clifton Anderson and granddaughter Jayahna Kahalia Anderson.
David made his transition from the cares of this world to a sphere of infinite joy, peace and rest on Thursday, August 13, 2020. He was preceded in death by his daughter, ShuVon “Shon” Felder-Truitt, sisters and brothers and many other family members and friends.
He was a person who loved family, a great listener, gave memorable advice, spoke few words, laughed, talked trash, gambled, watched various TV shows to include Western Movies, Judge Shows, and Sports, played dominoes, played Spades, cook, and helped anyone in need. His smile would light up any room.
David will live on in the hearts and memories of his wife Annie Mary Truitt, daughter Kahalia “Nee-Nee”Anderson, son-in-law Johnnie “JJ” Anderson Jr, grandson Rolando “The Boy” Clifton Anderson, and granddaughter Jayahna “The Girl” Kahalia Anderson of Victorville, California.
He also leaves to mourn his sisters Katherine “Baby Sister” Truitt-Derby, her daughters Stacy Truitt, Carla Truitt, Carlene Truitt-Ross, sons Willie Truitt, and Marcus Derby. Rachel (Slim) Truitt, her daughter Jackquline Smith, son Eddie Smith Jr, Lorene Truitt-Savage daughters Denise Truitt and Zola Truitt, and son Anthony Truitt all of whom reside in Mississippi. Jennie Gray, her daughters Hazel Dorsey, Craig Gray and Paris Gray, all of whom reside in Illinois and a nephew Danny Gray (son of Jennie) who resides in Kentucky and and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, extended family and beloved friends.
We know you are looking down on us from heaven saying, “ What’s Up Big Daddy”, “You Got It Big Daddy”, “Stay Sweet”, “Can I Hold A Little Something”, and “Buy me a little hook and some cigarettes.” Thank you for your sacrifice, unyielding strength and love for our family. Stay Cool Big Daddy, Until we meet again.......
