David was born on June 23, 1939 in San Diego, California. David married Jean Patton on October 25, 1964 in Mason City, Iowa. He is survived by his wife: Jean Fortune of Dallas, Texas. David is also survived by two children: David (Priscila) Fortune of Lewisville, Texas, and Holly Fortune of McKinney, Texas. Two granddaughters: Taylor Mason of Dallas, Texas, and Brooke Mason of McKinney, Texas.
David attended Odessa College on a basketball scholarship. He entered the Marine Corp and served mostly in the Reserves. He Joined the Mike Massad Life Insurance Agency in sales, later moving to Great West Insurance as a trainer. God placed a call on his life and he attended Dallas Theological Seminary acquiring a Masters in Biblical Studies. He joined Search Ministries and later established Compass Ministries. Along with his family he enjoyed summer family camp at Pine Cove, working on their staff. He mentored coaches at Wakeland High School, Frisco, and taught men's bible studies for years in the Dallas area along with conferences, retreats, marriage counseling and open forums. He served as an elder at Fellowship Bible Church and taught an adult bible study for 25 years. Along with his wife of 55 years, he acquired the Hiding Place a retreat house in Red River, New Mexico to encourage families in their walk of faith. He loved God's word and people, never meeting a stranger. In his latter years he suffered from pulmonary fibrosis yet loved people and enjoyed dinners with other seniors at Highland Springs. His quick wit was endearing.
A private family service has been scheduled.
A public celebration of David's life will be scheduled at a later date.
