David L. Dunbar was born on October 19, 1936, to the proud parentage of J.P. and Maggie Dunbar in Teague, Texas. In 1942, his mother passed leaving his father to raise him and his seven siblings. In November of that same year his father moved his family to Phoenix, Arizona, they later moved to El Mirage, Arizona.
David attended George Washington Carver High School where he was very active in football and track. After he graduated from high school, he enlisted the US Army, and served from 1958 to 1960. David was employed at the Stewart Company, where he distributed Zenith TV’s and electronic parts, and he retired after 36 years of outstanding service.”
David accepted the Lord at an early age. He was very active in the church. Under the leadership of his father, Reverend J.P. Dunbar, he became the youngest Sunday School teacher and he served on the Usher Board in the church. David also sang in the Young Men Gospel Group.
David relocated to Dallas in 1960 after he was discharged from the Army. He joined and became a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Howard. He was ordained as a Deacon and taught Sunday school. He was also under the leadership of Reverend T.C. Bonner who became pastor until God called him home, and then under the leadership of Reverend Billy J. Castile.
On November 18, 1967, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Jones- Dunbar.
In 2002 they united with Hope of Glory Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Harry A. Garrett. He was a faithful deacon until the failing of his health and he was no longer able to attend church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lucile King, Ester Battee and Mary Washington; three brothers; Lonnie Dunbar, Jack Dunbar, and James Dunbar.
He leaves to cherish his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn Dunbar; his son, Charles Dunbar of Dallas, TX; his sister, Susie Palumba (Ron) of Phoenix, AZ; his brother, J. W. Dunbar of Phoenix AZ; and a great host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
