David D. Cole, Jr. was born on May 11, 1964, to David D. Cole Sr. and Annie Laura Cole in Dallas, Texas. David, Jr. received Christ at an early age at St. Paul United Methodist Church. He later joined New Birth Baptist Church. David, Jr. attended Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1978-1982 where he was a star brass soloist of the Mighty Mustang Marching Band best known for his “You’re Still a Young Man” Tower of Power solo. He graduated from Roosevelt in 1982 with honors and was a recipient of the “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” award. After declining a full band scholarship to Florida A&M University to remain close to his family, David, Jr. attended Prairie View A&M University where he was a member of the Marching Storm and Jazz Band.
In 1988, David, Jr. married his childhood sweetheart Dell S. Walton, a fellow Roosevelt alumnus (‘84). Through this union, Nicollette, Davia, and Dai’Sa were born. David, Jr. and Dell would be celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary in October of 2023.
David, Jr. worked hard to provide for his family. He was employed with United Parcel Service (UPS) as a Union Steward and was a Teamster Local 767 member out of Fort Worth, Texas. David, Jr. worked for 34 years with UPS before retiring in September 2019.
The Lord called David, Jr. home on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Annie Laura Cole.
David, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Dell S. Cole, daughters: Nicollette Cole, Davia Cole, and Dai’Sa Cole, Son: Darius Joe Paul Cole, father: David Cole Sr., sister: Jacquelonne Cole-Davis, brother: Darwynn Cole (LaTres): mother-in-law: Patty Walton, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
