Danny Ray Phillips, Jr.: a selfless husband, loving father, gentlemen, scholar, generous giver, and altruistic friend. Rev. Danny Phillips, Sr. and Deborah Phillips birthed, young king, Danny Phillips, Jr. [DJ] on Friday, February 1, 1985 in Texas City, Texas.
Being groomed by renowned religious figures, DJ grew up in Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church under the direction of his grandfather, Zephaniah Phillips who referred to him as “Captain”. Accepting The Lord and Savior early on, Danny was always dedicated to serving others and did so from an early age committing to roles which included ushering and discipleship via Shepherd Boys predominantly. He desired to continue the legacy of ministry and accepted his calling to the ministry in April of 2018, only to go on a sabbatical twenty- two days afterwards, when he lost his father.
DJ started his educational endeavors in the private school sector where he eventually transitioned to public school in upper elementary to complete all of his scholarly milestones in (LaMarque Independent School District ) before advancing to higher education at Texas A&M University in College Station in Fall of 2003. Danny studied Construction Science and began his career prior to graduation through various internships and work studies with some of the largest and most successful construction companies in Texas. Working on the AT&T Cowboys Stadium was one of his most prized internships. Danny P delved deeply in various student organizations, activities, and experiences across campus, but possessed an extreme passion for his National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Through his love for serving others, Danny managed to provide an experience with every social gathering he had the pleasure to coordinate and organize. His fascination with networking and yearning to always possess the latest and greatest knowledge surrounding his career led Danny to continue in pursuit of several accolades, certifications, and honors to be known as one of the premiere figures in his industry.
Danny received an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University in 2020 along with a real estate license to add to his detailed resume. His fascination for commercial real estate and development and big dreams for his family lead him to start his own firm and gain membership acceptance into organizations such as ULI Dallas, Ascend Washington, and TREC ALC class of 2021 just to name a few. Danny was currently enrolled in Georgetown where he was projected to receive a second masters in development.
DJ had a deeply rooted desire to serve others and give back to his community. He was often donating money to individuals and groups that had a clearly defined mission and purpose. He seldom met a stranger and reveled in listening to others talk about what defined them and made them happy. Danny would then take intimate conversations he had with people and use his thoughtfulness to gift them with tokens of appreciation. He also enjoyed doing this openly so that his wife and children would also follow suit and lend a philanthropic hand to those in need.
Although Texas A&M was the place Danny started his career, it was also the space where he met his wife, Chantoinae, and learned that all work and no play was useless if you find someone you truly want to do life with. Danny and Chan went on to marry in March of 2013 and had 3 beautiful children to join their union over the past 9 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading multiple books a month, journaling, meditating, traveling, and dreaming about the life he truly desired to share with his wife and children.
Danny P had an exquisite taste in food, beverage, music, and literature. He enjoyed stimulating dialogue and intellectual debates and was known to push anyone to new heights while supporting them through those challenges. In principle and practice, Danny loved putting the needs of others before his own and enjoyed being able to see individuals celebrate their wins. He will live on in the hearts of many.
Danny is preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Phillips and his father Danny Phillips, Sr. Left to honor and cultivate Danny’s legacy is his wife of 9 years, Chantoinae Phillips; daughters, Paisley Phillips and Milani Phillips; son, Danny Ray Phillips, III; sister, Danielle Phillips; brother, Dominique Phillips; uncle, Michael Hinton; and a host of colleagues, fraternity brothers, and friends.
