Daniel Irwin Vaughan Sr. aka “Big Daddy,” 76, of Colleyville, Texas went to be with the Lord Wednesday February 10th, 2016 surrounded by his family. Daniel was born September 8th, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Edith and Samuel Irwin Vaughan who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife Julie Choate Vaughan and four children born to Celesta Vaughan; Daniel Vaughan Jr. and wife GayMarie (Joy-Amal and Caroline Kurdi) of Dallas, TX; Samuel Vaughan II and wife Stephanie of Elkhart, IN; Christopher Vaughan and wife Annie (Bennett and Maxwell) of Dallas, TX; Celesta Michelle and husband Joe McDonald (Declan) of Denver, CO; two step children Chris Choate and wife Sherry (Austin, Alexis and Cody) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Craig Choate of Bedford, TX; sisters Elizabeth Baker of Kansas City, MO and Jeannette Milstead of Nacogdoches, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Daniel was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. He received his BA from Hardin-Simmons University and served in the United States Army. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Hella Shrine Temple, riding in the Temple motor patrol for many years. In lieu of Flowers, friends are encouraged to make gifts to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the Scholarship Fund at Trinity Christian Academy of Addison, TX, or Cistercian Preparatory School of Irving, TX, or your favorite charity. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 14 at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, also at the funeral home. Interment will be private Grove Hill Memorial Park.
