Dan Moody Cain, age 90, died at his home on February 18, 2017, in Dallas, Texas, due to complications from liver cancer. He was born on July 6, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, to Erie Montclair and Betty Belle Howell Cain. Dan attended the University of Texas and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Marian Louise Stewart, his wife of 69 years, in 1947.
Dan worked for nearly 40 years as an accountant for the Sun Oil Company. Following his retirement in 1986, he founded his own consulting company, Cain Consultants, where he continued working in oil and gas joint interest accounting for over 10 years. Dan was active in the Council of Petroleum Accountant Societies for a number of years and won many awards for his service and leadership in the field. He was a long-time member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and served in various capacities in the 2x2 and In His Steps Sunday School Classes. He and Marian enjoyed traveling throughout this country and abroad over the years as well as visiting their grandchildren as they participated in a variety of activities. Dan was very dedicated to his family, his work, and his church, providing a valuable role model to all who knew him.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife, Marian, and his daughter and son-in-law, Marcia Ann and Walter Seth Crone, Jr., of Beaumont, Texas. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Kimball Montclair Crone of San Antonio, Texas, and Kirby Armitage Crone of Hudson, New York, as well as by his brother-in-law, Thomas Lee Spratt of Tucson, Arizona, and his niece, Sheila Elizabeth Fix, of Agua Dulce, California, along with numerous other nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on February 25, 2017, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home located at 7405 West Northwest Highway in Dallas, Texas, with a reception to follow. The Reverend Barbara Marcum of Highland Park United Methodist Church will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Dan Moody Cain. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Methodist Children’s Home, 1111 Herring Avenue, Waco, TX 76708 would be appreciated.
