Damon Ray Askew was born on August 10, 1948, to Marjorie Wright and Jimmy D. Askew, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Damon had a total of seven siblings: Micheal Charles Askew, James Alvin Askew, William Lloyd Askew, Judy Ann Askew, Gaynell Askew Smith, Randall Lee Lynn, and Kenneth Eugene Lynn.
Damon graduated from Lincoln High School’s class of 1966. Shortly after, Damon entered the United States Army (from February 26, 1968 until February 25, 1971). Damon held rank as SP5 in the Army.
Damon met his soulmate and the love of his life, Lee Ester Askew, and took her hand in marriage on May 17, 1972. Damon attended Mountain View college from 1975 to 1976, along with attending trade school.
Damon had three children—two boys and one girl; his oldest, Cedric Armstrong, Katrina Askew-Blacknall and Kendrick Askew, whom he loved so much. Damon has a total of eight grandchildren, Ayanna Reitzell, Briana Morgan, Chyanne Askew, Dezirae’ Blacknall, De’Kerrius Love, Brandon Blacknall, Jr., Maurice Askew, and Kendrick Askew, Jr., whom he spoiled heavily with love.
Damon was a hardworking man; he started as a driver for Surtran and later took a career with DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit). Damon worked at DART from December 2, 1985, until April 1, 2011, when he retired. While at DART, Damon went from a bus operator to being over the whole safety department. After he retired he started his own business, Askew’s Defensive Safety Driving School, where he taught courses for defensive driving.
Damon is the true definition of a hard-working man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Damon has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law. He will truly be missed. He showed love to anyone crossing his path. He now join his beautiful queen, Lee Ester Askew; son, Cedric Armstrong; mother and father; siblings, Mike, Ran, Ken, James, and Judy; many other relatives; and two best friends, Mr. Rogers and Mr. Oscar.
