Cross Alexander Young passed away on November 3, 2019 at the age of nineteen. He was born on May 10, 2000 in Dallas, Texas to Rosemary Delgado and James Bowman Young III. Cross was a miracle and a true blessing to this world. He was born and raised in Oak Cliff, Texas and graduated from Sunset High School in May of 2019.
Cross was a great encourager and had a huge love of family. He enjoyed being the ‘big brother in charge’ as he watched his brothers and sisters grow up. Cross never met a stranger. His beaming smile lit up the room, and he had the ability to put others at ease and intuitively knew when others needed comfort. Cross was in the process of writing his life story and was often found journaling in one of the many notebooks he kept in his pockets. He wrote his own musical lyrics and was a sucker for love songs. Cross enjoyed listening to country music on 99.5 The Wolf and was an enthusiastic Elvis fan. His hobbies included playing basketball with family and friends and watching movies or a good Dallas Mavericks game while eating popcorn. Cross possessed a great sense of humor, delivered clever punchlines, and often laughed at his own jokes. He had a tender, caring heart and always kept in touch with friends and family through his many calls and text messages. Cross was baptized in April of 2017 on Easter Sunday. You could count on him to be the first to volunteer to pray during family meals and celebrations. Cross wasn’t shy, was very opinionated, and didn’t mind telling you what was on his mind.
He enjoyed spending time at camp during the summer, and each year he would return home with a new crush. Cross was a fighter and never gave up despite the many obstacles placed in his path. Cross was deeply loved and impacted many lives during his nineteen years of life.
Cross is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Armando Soto and Carlos Carranza, Jr., and his great grandfather, Pedro Martinez. Those left to cherish his legacy are his mother, Rosemary Delgado; father, James Bowman Young III; bonus mom, Selena Garza; sisters, Makayla and Violet Martinez; brothers, Elijah and Matthew (Felix) Martinez, and Fabian Ybarra; niece, Malia Ybarra; maternal grandparents, Antonio and Josephina Delgado, and Ascension Delgado-Soto; paternal grandparents, Judy Young, James Bowman Young II, and Joanne Young; bonus grandparents, Richard and Gilda Garza; along with many extended family and friends who will truly miss him but know that he is happy and whole in the presence of the Lord.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home - 3920 Samuell Blvd. A celebration of Cross's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, at Cliff Temple Baptist Church - 125 Sunset Ave. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
