A miracle since her birth, Chloe Shea has defied medical and scientific phenomena. The placenta that attached mom and daughter was severed in the birthing process. Chloe drowned in the womb. During the C-section, Chloe was resuscitated, was put on a cooling blanket and recovered from her brain trauma in a remarkable three week stay in the hospital. Chloe soared after her birth, improving daily with physical and occupational therapies, baby yoga, Little Gym and daily developmental play. She grew to a successful, smart child. Chloe began school at 18 months at St. Alcuin Montessori program when she excelled and was a leader in her bilingual program. She had a wonderful time playing with friends, Soccer Tots, gymnastics, yoga, and basketball. In February 2011, she was diagnosed with medulloblastoma stage 4. Chloe underwent emergency surgery to debulk the tumor, 8 months of chemo, and an eventual bone marrow transplant. She fought the battle like a champ, bringing joy to all who met her in the hospital and friends who surrounded her. She was a kind, loving soul, consistently giving to others amidst adversity. Her constant companion was her brother, Charles, who she called her best friend. In November, the cancer came back. She accomplished more in her life than most do. Chloe will be missed by her school community, hospital community, Dallas, and all who were graced with her presence. She is survived by parents, Maile and Ryan Shea, and baby brother, Charles. Funeral services will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Children’s Garden of Dallas Arboretum or the St. Alcuin Montessori School in memory of Chloe Simone Shea.
