Laverne Pine was born in DeKalb, TX on February 10, 1923 to Margaret and Charlie Pine. She married Homer Rembert Taylor on September 25, 1939. They settled in Oak Cliff, TX, where they raised their three sons, Tony, Richard, and Steve. Laverne enjoyed crochet, embroidery, cooking, and gardening. She retired from Collins Radio in 1975, where she was a project inspector. She had many friends. She went to Montgomery Wards' beauty salon at Town East Mall every Thursday for 30 years to get her hair done by her friend and stylist, Sherry. Laverne loved dogs very much and raised and loved several throughout her life. They were all very spoiled. She also loved Christmas, even during the last few years of her life when she suffered from dementia... She was still able to sing Christmas songs word for word. She was a very active, energetic, and strong woman. Her strength really showed in 1979 when her beloved husband Rembert was struck and hit by a car and severely injured. She lovingly and patiently attended his every need for the many years it took him to gain his strength back. Laverne had a great sense of humor that stayed with her until her last days. She had a laugh that lit up the room. Towards the end of her life, she often spoke of being ready to go to heaven to be with the love of her life, Rembert. That wish came true on August 29, 2022, when she and Rembert were united in love forever. Here are a few excerpts from her diary:
"Me and Tony went to see Bebo today, then we went to his Lake lot. I got to see his mobile home. It is real nice. We left home about 10:00 and got back at 4:30. I really did enjoy this day."
"Jane made some meatballs and spaghetti for supper and brought it over here with a salad. Tony, Steve, and Jennifer came over for supper and we ate in the dining room. I made a strawberry shortcake for dessert."
"Tomorrow is Mother's Day. Tony, Richard, and Steve came over and we went to Red Lobster. We knew that it would be better to go today than tomorrow. It is so crowded on Mother's Day that you can't even get into a place to eat. I sure do enjoy being with my sons."
