Charles Mills Yater, 94, of Dallas passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his residence in Dallas. He will always be remembered as a loving, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all that knew and loved him.
He was born on November 11, 1919 in Roswell, New Mexico. He ultimately moved to Dallas and graduated from Adamson High School. He enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army just prior to World II. While residing at the Schofield Barracks, Charles was present when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. After serving in the Army, Charles returned to Dallas and ultimately established C.M. Yater Jewelry Manufacturing Company in downtown Dallas. Twenty years ago, the corporation moved to the Park Cities area and was renamed C.M. Yater and Sons Fine Jewelry Manufacturing. His family and career were the pride and joy of his life. His favorite activities were playing golf, dominoes, and cards.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Bobbie Yater of Dallas, TX; sons Greg and Mark Yater, daughter-in-laws, Robin and Linda Yater, grandchildren, Eren and David Campbell, Cole Yater, and Great Grandson, Jaden Campbell, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Maxine Hundley and brother Paul Yater.
A Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Hwy Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the Sparkman/Hillcrest. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army at 8787 N.
