Charles E. Means, Sr. was a wise, generous and caring man who made an eternal impact on many. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Charles was born on February 17, 1936 in Saltillo, Mississippi to Ralph and Mary Tanner Means. On February 14, 2015, with his best friend and wife, Sherrille, nearby; Charles passed quickly of a stroke and went to be with the Lord at age 78.
Charles graduated from high school in Japan and attended college at Mississippi State and the University of Houston. He married Sherrille Cockerill on November 20, 1964. Charles and Sherrille celebrated their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary this past November…a fact he loved sharing with anyone who would listen. Charles served our country in the Army and spent most his career as a Technician at Texas Instruments. Charles’ enjoyed a simple life and felt blessed. He loved Jesus and adored his family. His interests included gardening, listening to great bluegrass, country, blues and gospel music; and especially, fishing for bass at Lake Fork. He had a fun sense of humor and a knack for figuring out how to fix just about anything. Charles was a respected man, strong yet tender, who went above and beyond to support family, friends and even special acquaintances. He showed people they were important and loved through his presence, practical assistance, guidance, cheering on, prayers, encouraging words, and generous, thoughtful gifts. He shared Christ’s love with many people in many ways.
Charles’ best times were spent with his wife and family. He always said that his kids were the best thing that ever happened to him. He was so proud of his children and would do anything for them. As his family grew, his joy increased with the addition of his treasured grandchildren. Memories of life with Charles will be forever cherished by Sherrille, their children and their families: Ralph (of Aledo, TX), his wife, Audra, and daughter Delaney; Anne (of Flower Mound, TX), her husband, Cody, and sons Clayton, Jake and Brett; Charlie (of Frisco, TX), his wife, Kristi, and sons Charlie III and Chase. Charles is also survived by his sister, Ginger Read of Nashville, TN; sister, Betty Means of Plano; and his daughter from a previous marriage, Barbara Ehle and her children, Adriene, Phillip, Emma and Alaina.
A memorial service in celebration of Charles’ life is being held at 1:00, Friday, February 20, 2015 at Ted Dickey Funeral Home West on President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, TX. Charles enjoyed supporting Cal Farley’s Boys’ Ranch & Girlstown USA. Memorials may be sent to www.calfarley.org.
