Roy Jopling, 83, of Dallas, entered his Heavenly home on Friday, April 7, 2017. He was born on May 10, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Edmund and Colene Jopling. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Jopling. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Jopling; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory & Denise Jopling of Aledo and Douglas & Jennifer Jopling of Plano; grandchildren, Benjamin, Madelyn, and Arianna; 103 year old aunt, Virginia Hearn; and many other beloved relatives.
Roy was a 1951 graduate of Poly High School in Fort Worth. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Texas. Roy retired from State Farm Insurance Company, following 39 years of faithful service. During his career, Roy earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriting (CPCU) designation. He truly enjoyed his career with State Farm and the relationships established there. Following retirement, Roy kept his former co-workers and retirees connected and enjoyed maintaining those friendships over the years.
Roy, along with his wife, Sharon, was an active member of Northway Christian Church in Dallas for over 50 years. He served as an Elder Emeritus and enjoyed serving in a variety of capacities in his church – which truly was his home away from home.
Roy loved his family. He had an endless love for his wife, Sharon, to whom he was married 59 wonderful years. He was a proud father of his two sons and a proud grandfather of his grandchildren. Roy always wanted to be certain that those around him were happy; his quick wit and need to make others laugh will always be remembered. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Northway Christian Church, 7202 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225 with the Rev. Dr. Douglas B. Skinner officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Memorial donations may be made to Northway Christian Church.
