Our family and community sadly lost a legend on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, when Detective Charles Thomas Grady (82), favorably known as Chuck, Grady, Shady Grady or Chucky Cheese, passed away peacefully.
He spent 31 years of service with the Dallas Police Department protecting our community in the Patrol Unit, Auto-Thief, and the first to lead the Swindle Unit that existed of only two detectives for the department. When he was not protecting our city, he offered his services to educate our senior citizen community on safety practices, spent many weekends mowing his beautiful lawn, summer days taking in a Ranger game while drinking a beer and showering his wife with gifts of love. It was never uncommon to encounter “Grady” without hearing one of his many stories that made you giggle or cry with laughter. Every story was just as elaborate as the first, but always fun to hear.
Charles has been called away for a higher security detail and leaves behind his loving wife, Marie Grady, of 43 years of marriage, loving daughter Dr. Tonjia Grimble, devoted son-in-law, Kenneth Grimble, Sr. and compassionate grandsons, Brandan Grimble and Kenneth Grimble, Jr.
His legacy will live in the hearts and minds of all those he touched, as well as those he never met. We thank all the friends and family that kept the Gradys in their prayers over the years.
