We want to celebrate the life and legacy of Cecil Columbus Brashear, a worthy soldier of the Lord, whose actions will leave a lasting mark on time and eternity. Cecil was born on January 21, 1943, the youngest child of Leander and Alve Brashear. He graduated from Lincoln High School. After pushing through college at Cedar Valley Community College, he received an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1993 and also attended Eastfield College to further his education.
Cecil was a soldier who served this country in mighty honor. He was commissioned as a Vietnam Soldier in 1972 and left the army with an honorable discharge in 1975. He also received a bronze medal for his on ground bravery and actions. Once he left the army, he started to train to become a police officer but later decided to become a Peace Officer during the years of 1995- 1999 and retired in 2000 with many recognitions for his brave action and commitment to the national community.
Cecil also was a school security guard for the Dallas Independent School District. He used this opportunity to reach out to children and help the community in which he grew up in. During these years of working, Cecil met his current wife, Mary. The loving couple met while Cecil was working for Dallas ISD. Mary and Cecil got married in 2001 and lived happily in Tyler Texas until a new life started in 2004.
In 2004, Cecil and Mary were blessed with the birth of their granddaughter, MarJai, in which they decided to stay in Tyler to ensure a better life for her. Cecil helped to raise his granddaughter the best he could before finally adopting her in 2006. Cecil and Mary moved back to Dallas Texas in 2009 after the lost of his wife's dad. As years passed and memories were born, they attended events and became a vital part of each other's lives. Another bundle of joy sprung into action in 2013.
In 2013, Cecil was graced with the presence of his granddaughter, Ja'Nique, who was born at the time when Cecil had just invested in a new house to provide a better life for his family. He received this new granddaughter that challenged his mind but promoted him to become a better man in the years to come. In 2016, Cecil decided to move his family in Desoto Texas where he was currently located.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents: three brothers Hollis, Charles and Berlaind, sister: Mary Emma and brother in law David Lewis.
