Carroll Dean Avery was born in Dallas on July 16, 1946 to James and Loretta Avery. He grew up in Oak Cliff, and as a young man he worked at VA hospitals in Dallas and California before developing conditions which led to a disability retirement at a fairly young age. Carroll Dean spent much of his time assisting his mom and dad with their lives. When his mother’s health required her to undergo dialysis treatment the last four years of her life, he made sure she was on time for the three-times per week treatments. He was an independent person who managed his life in an orderly fashion He had great empathy for children and consistently contributed to charities like St. Jude’s children’s hospital. He felt that even though his income might be modest, there was always enough to share with others.He is survived by his sister, Betty Poyner and her husband Richard, Cousin Gloria Barrett and her husband Gary, a nephew, Rick Poyner and wife Charlene, and grand niece and nephew Rebecca and Matthew Poyner and an extended family of second and third cousins whom he loved.
