Carolyn Crum Reed

Carolyn Crum Reed passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born February 28, 1940 in Dallas, Texas, and spent all of her life here. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, from her adoring family to the many children who had the good fortune to be taught in school by her.

Growing up, Carolyn spent countless summers in the Hill Country of Texas at Camp Mystic, and her love for it was passed to her daughters and her granddaughters. Carolyn met the love of her life, Robert M. "Bobby" Reed at Highland Park Junior High School. Their storybook romance grew through Highland Park High School, as Carolyn was cheerleader and Bobby played quarterback, leading the Scots to a State Championship in 1957. They attended and graduated from SMU, where Carolyn was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

After marriage to Bobby, they raised three wonderful children, Susan, Lisa, and Robert. Carolyn was active in the Junior League of Dallas and served as the President of the PTA for both Highland Park High School and Hyer Elementary School. Later, she went back and taught at Hyer Elementary for over a decade, impacting the lives of hundreds of young children. Of all the various roles she played in her admirable life, her role as "Mimi," grandmother to nine and great-grandmother to four more, was her best. No holiday went by without a card, an encouraging note, or a loving phone call. She attended football games, baseball games, basketball games, swim meets, soccer games, track meets, dance recitals, school events and cheer competitions with great enthusiasm and loyalty for all these years.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her father and mother, Paul and Jeanne Crum; her brothers, Mayo and Bob Crum, and granddaughter, Ellen Reed. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; her three children, Susan Farrell (Todd), Lisa Giles (Bobby), and Robert Reed (Kirstin); her sister, Jeanne Fortson (Joe B.); her sister-in-law, Yvonne Crum; nine adoring grandchildren, Todd Farrell, Jr. (Vicki), Marshall Farrell (Kathryn), Robert Peters (Maddie), Libby Ducey (Zach), Will Peters (Leah), Carly Peters, Trey Reed, Audrey Reed, and Paige Reed; and her four great-grandchildren, Emma Ducey, Liam Ducey, Goldie Farrell, and Kimball Farrell.

Whether you were family, a friend, a child at Hyer Elementary, or a stranger, you could never forget Carolyn's smile. Mimi will be missed. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Faith Presbyterian Hospice / T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care for their amazing care for Carolyn during her stay.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 4, at 2:00 pm at the Chapel at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway in Dallas, with a reception to follow. The family requests that bright colors be worn in Carolyn's honor. In remembrance of Carolyn's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
