Carolyn Coleman was born September 5, 1932, in Alpine, Texas to Melba and Ivan Newton. She passed away unexpectedly September 14, 2012 while traveling with lifelong friends who shared her zest for life. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Fred Newton. Her deep commitment to God, family and country was exhibited in a lifetime of service to many organizations such as the DAR, Quilt Guild of Dallas, Retired DFD RV club and playing the piano and organ at First Baptist Church Urbandale. She loved learning and shared her knowledge and wisdom with Sunday school and bible study students for more than 50 years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard Coleman; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and JoAnn Coleman; son, James Coleman; daughter and son-in-law, Sharolyn and Stan Herndon; grandchildren, Cory Coleman, Chris and Lily Coleman; great-grandchildren, Emily and Jack Coleman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors 6-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 18 at Grove Hill funeral home, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas. Graveside services Wednesday, 9:30 A.M. at Grove Hill Memorial Park, Route #1. A celebration of her life will be 1:30 P.M .Wednesday, September 19 at the Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas.Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Buckner Baptist Benevolences or the Prayer Ministry of Park Cities Baptist Church.
