Carolyn June Anthony

Carolyn June Frye Anthony was born July 9, 1935, to Vernon and Mildred Frye in Guthrie, OK. She passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 in Dallas, TX. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Martha Kuwitzky, Martha’s husband Scottie, and their son, Keith. She was also preceded by her niece, Becky, Becky’s parents, Gene and Barbara Brewer, and her brother- and sister-in-law, Bob and Donna Anthony

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Bruce, her son, Bill, and his wife, Joyce, her son, Randy, and his wife, Lori, and her daughter, Valerie. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Frye, and his wife, Jill. Carolyn’s grandchildren are Rachel Anthony, Kalon Anthony, whose mother is Kerri George, and Ariana Castillo, Joshua Castillo, and Julia Castillo, whose father is Jaime Castillo.

Her surviving nieces and nephews are Carl Kuwitzky and his wife Catherine, Chris Kuwitzky and his wife Cheryl, Laura Anthony, John Anthony, Jeremy Frye, Jamie Frye and his wife Kelly, Stephanie Glenn, Janet Stice and her husband Phil, Susan Yeats and her husband Gary, Ann Brumley and her husband Doyce, and Jennifer Blake and her husband Kent.

Carolyn and Bruce met at the University Church of Christ in Norman, OK, and were married December 23, 1954. After Bruce’s stint in the Army and his graduation from Oklahoma University, they moved to Dallas, TX. Bruce’s career would take them to many places over the years, including Pearl River, NY, in 1962, San Jose, CA, in 1963, Omaha, NE, in 1965, Charlotte, NC in 1967, and Dallas, TX, in 1968, when they placed membership at the Waterview Church of Christ for the first time.

In 1970, they embarked to Boston, returned to Richardson in 1973, then transferred to Minneapolis, MN, in 1981 and Atlanta, GA, in 1983. In 1988, with their children grown, Bruce and Carolyn returned to the Dallas area where they finally “settled down” at Waterview till the present day.

Over the years, Carolyn taught children’s Bible school at Waterview, as well as the ladies’ Bible class, and she loved attending group discussion classes with Bruce. She transformed her lifelong passion for sewing, knitting, and quilting into a Christian ministry with Sisters in Service at Waterview. She and Bruce also took mission trips to Germany and Mexico, teaching English as a second language using the Bible as text.

Carolyn loved to cook, and she reveled in using recipes from her mother, Bruce’s mother, and her sisters in Christ. She loved providing meals for those who had lost loved ones and for those confined at home with illness. She also supported patients, their loved ones, and caregivers through the Lifeline Chaplaincy. Further, she attended a regular Friday afternoon prayer group with several close sisters in Christ.

Carolyn loved music, singing, and playing the piano. She studied music at Normandale Community College in Minneapolis and Emory University in Atlanta.

Travel, however, was Bruce and Carolyn’s overarching interest, and they toured the world, both through his job and with family and friends. Her favorite destination: Hawaii!

Nothing, however, compared to Carolyn’s love and devotion to her children and grandchildren. To her, motherhood was both a sacred duty and life’s highest privilege, and her offspring were priceless treasures. She prayed for them every day of her life!

Carolyn loved the Church, and if she could be here, she would thank and praise each of you for your outreach, care, and love for Bruce and the family she treasured beyond measure. As we move ahead, her legacy will comfort, guide, and inspire all of us who knew and loved her!
