She was a beloved teacher of young children in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and most recently here in Dallas at Parish Episcopal School.
Carol was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 2, 1946 to Mary Louise and John P. Hughes. She was a member of St. Edward parish in Youngstown, graduated Ursuline High School, attended St. Mary’s of the Springs in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated cum laude from Youngstown State University in 1968.
In 1969 she married Philip J. Rigney of Youngstown, and they lived the first years of their marriage in Cleveland, OH. They next lived in Cincinnati where their daughter Shannon was born and in 1977 moved to Atlanta, GA where their son Brendan was born and both the children were raised. In 1997 they moved to Dallas.
Carol is survived by her husband Philip J. Rigney of Dallas, her daughter Shannon Rigney (Blake Steen) and their son Braden of Charlotte, NC and her son John Brendan Rigney of Texas. She is one of 6 children and is survived by her siblings John Michael Hughes (Linda), Jim Hughes (Suzy) Corrine Crane (John), Kathleen Allen (Doug), and Anne Hughes as well as 14 nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank Carol’s closest friends both here and afar who have been so supportive and caring throughout her illness.

A memorial service will be held Thursday March 1, 2012 at 7pm in the Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Rd., Dallas, TX 75254.
Carol will be interred later this year in her beloved Georgia Mountains.
