Dr. Carl S. Gilbert passed away on June 23, 2016, with his family at his side. For most of the past 40 years, Carl resided in Duncanville, TX, but he was truly a resident of all the U.S.A.. As he often said, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!". Born January 14, 1936, in Jamestown, CA, is where Carl began his journey. He grew up in Central Oregon and earned his Bachelor's degree from Oregon State and got married immediately after graduation. Carl then attended Temple University in Philadelphia earning his Doctorate in Optometry. He established a private practice in Everett, WA, and he and his wife added two children to their family. In 1971, the family moved to Duncanville and Carl worked for the Army-Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). His position with AAFES allowed him to travel the world, where he proudly provided his services to the U.S. military personnel as they served our country. In 1983, he established a private practice in Grand Prairie. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Gilbert was on the faculty of University of Texas South Western Medical Center. He remarried in 1997 to Lois Burton. Dr. Gilbert is survived by his daughter Carol Vizenor (Joe), son Conrad Gilbert (Tia), four grandsons- Andrew & Samuel Vizenor, Jeffry & David Gilbert, sister-in-laws Regina Tancredi & Cathy Harrison, brother-in-laws Randy Burton & Gerald Burton. Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Gilbert and his sister Carleen Gilbert-Hind. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
