C.A. was born to Clarence Ainsworth (Rocky) and Eunice Lee Rundell. C.A. followed his father’s football coaching career, which took the family from states such as Iowa to Texas. Later, his family ran the River Bend Lodge in the Texas Hill country where C.A. frolicked in the Guadalupe River and attended Camp Stewart.
C.A. attended Tivy High School and Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. He later transitioned to attend the University of Texas in Austin, Texas where obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. It was also at the University where he met and courted his beautiful bride-to-be, Sylvia Sue Spurger, marrying her in 1954 in his wife’s hometown of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. The University of Texas is also where C.A found his love of athletics, especially track and field. Following his honorable service in the Navy in San Diego, California, C.A. obtained his Master in Business Administration with Distinction from Harvard Business School.
Athletics were a balm to his soul. He enjoyed running the Boston Marathon, the Dallas Turkey Trot, The Tyler Cup Race at The Cooper Aerobics Center, and playing tennis with his friends at the Dallas Country Club.
With a hearty laugh and a penchant for mischief, C.A. had a positive impact on anyone who crossed his path. However, do not let his jovial manner fool you, C.A. was a discerning businessman. C.A.’s executive acumen was developed and respected throughout his career at such companies as U.S. Brass, Texas Instruments, Tyler Pipe Corporation, and Cronus Industries and multiple boards of directors’ positions. His true calling came when he opened the doors of Rundell Enterprises where his entrepreneurial spirit flourished.
C.A. enjoyed doting on family and friends with his generosity and benevolence. The family was fortunate enough to make such trips as snow skiing in Austria, snorkeling in the Cayman Islands, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, white water rafting in Colorado, and seeing the Olympics in the U.S. and China.
He also was a deeply spiritual man, finding fulfillment by immersing himself at his beloved church, Saint Michael and All Angels Church in Dallas, Texas, where he was a senior warden and lead several capital campaigns to fulfillment.
A private graveside service was held June 16, 2020 at Sparkman Hillcrest in Dallas, Texas. A Celebration of Life may take place at a later date.
