On December 22, 1932, Bud Richard Fields was the 14th child of 15 born to Richard and Clora Fields in Gilmer, Texas. Richard attended public schools in Upshur County and graduated from Mt. Enterprise High School in 1951. After graduating high school, Richard enrolled in Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. His studies were interrupted when he was grafted into the United States Army during the country’s involvement in the Korean War. After and honorable discharge from the Army in 1955, he moved to Dallas to attend Bishop College. In 1960 he married Ora Figures. Together they attended Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the President and faithful member of the Usher Board. Richard and Ora later moved their membership to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an usher until his transition to his heavenly home. Richard was employed by the Kroger Company for 38 years where he also served as a Teamster Union Steward. After retiring from Kroger, Richard could be found exercising and socializing at the YMCA. He loved to bake Tea Cakes, peach cobbler and sweet potato pies to share with family and friends. Richard was also a BBQ “pit master”. The family dinners were not complete without his famous greens and hot water cornbread. His culinary skills will truly be missed. In 1990, Richard and Ora’s earthly journey ended when she transitioned to her reward. Richard was the father of three daughters: Cheryl, Portia and Adrienne. He was grandfather to three grandchildren and Granddaddy” to four adoring great grandchildren. He also served as a father figure to a “surrogate” son, Kenneth Glen. Richard was the last surviving child of his parents and was dearly loved by his nephews and nieces who affectionately referred to him as “Uncle Bootsie”. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, additional nieces and nephews from Ora’s family as well many friends and church members. He will truly be missed by all.
