“The Heavens are alive with the sound of music” as Brownie is re-united with her beloved Bob, husband of 56 years. Born to Helen Hope and Doyle Richard Wimberly on 2/27/29 in Wortham, Texas. She graduated valedictorian of Wortham High School and then from Baylor University in 1949 ,where she met husband, Bob Shytles, who passed away in 2005. A woman of enduring faith and optimism, she died peacefully on 10/13/22 at age 93.
She taught music for many years at Highland Park Presbyterian Day School. Brownie and Bob were active members of several Dallas churches and led the singing at the Seagoville State Prison Ministries for years, where she would accompany the songs on her accordion (insert your own accordion joke here). She enjoyed entertaining, travel and bridge with long-time friends ,especially those from the early days at Ridgewood Park Methodist in Dallas. After retirement she formed Ye Merry Olde Players, a musical group of her talented peers, who performed for free all over the area. Well into her 90’s she entertained any and all comers playing a virtual songbook of piano by memory, long after her sight had left her. Her long life was well lived and loved.
She will be missed by her sister, Terri Heard, her children, Wyck Shytles, Spence Shytles (Kathy), Susanna Ogden (Van), Priscilla Shellenberger (Steve). Her nieces, Hayley Heard, Hillary Hope Atkinson (Brian). Her grandchildren: Melissa Laurens (Eddie), Darcy Dickerson (Dave), Emily Harms (Jared), Meredith Parekh (Aakash), Henry Shytles, Sam Ogden (Madeline, fiancé) Hope Robinson (Caleb), Cole Ogden, Will Shellenberger (Lydia), Caroline Hope Shellenberger and John Shellenberger, her ten great -grandchildren and her many friends.
“If there be starry crowns in heaven, for “beloved” ones to wear, the star in “Brownie’s” crown,
shall shine as bright as any there.” Eugene Hall (paraphrased)
The family is most grateful to those who cared for her in her later years, including those at The Tradition on Lover’s Lane and The Jackson’s Place.
The family will receive visitors at Sparkman/Hillcrest Dallas on Sunday, October 16, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral and reception thereafter at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd., Dallas, at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 17. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HPPC Music Ministry or the charity of your choice.
