Bridgett “Tina” Fitzmartin was born November 5, 1940 in Crossmolina, County Mayo, Ireland to Lucy Kelly Judge and Jack Judge. Senan “Fitz” Fitzmartin was born April 6, 1937 in Doonbeg Village, County Clare, Ireland to Margaret Sullivan Fitzmartin and James Fitzmartin.
In search of the American dream they independently emigrated from Ireland to New York in 1958 and met at an Irish dance. They quickly fell in love and celebrated almost 55 years of marriage. In 1976 the then family of five moved to Texas as Fitz earned an opportunity to further chase the couple’s dreams of success.
Tina was a gracious loving mother, adoring grandmother and role model for all. After raising her children, Tina spent her life helping her family and others in the community through various charities. She was active in a number of organizations including St. Monica Church’s Eucharistic Ministry and Stephen Ministry programs, North Dallas Women's Club, Ladies from Across the Pond, and Canterbury Book Club. Tina cherished the strong friendships she developed through these organizations.
Fitz was a very successful entrepreneur with a passion for mentoring and motivating others. He originally started as a laborer performing demolition in New York and quickly rose through the ranks to become owner and CEO of Constructors & Associates in Dallas, Texas. After retiring from his prominent construction management company, he enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and giving back to the community.
Throughout their lives, Fitz and Tina maintained their love of the ocean that they developed as children. They made frequent trips to their summer home on the beach in South Padre Island. Therefore, it is fitting that on February 28, 2017, as they were returning from two beautiful months of beach vacation, God decided it was time to welcome them into Heaven. As devout Catholics, Tina and Fitz had been preparing all their lives for this reward. They attended Mass weekly and even daily during Lent, prayed the Rosary regularly and contributed to the needs of every parish they attended.
Fitz and Tina loved life, and touched the lives of so many people around the world. It was important to them to take annual trips back to Ireland to visit family and remember their heritage. They enjoyed ranching and the beautiful hills of east Texas which reminded them of the “Old Country”.
They were big fans of the Cowboys, Irish Football, and any sport in which their grandchildren were participants. They could often be heard cheering the loudest at any game and were proud to attend various recitals. Fitz and Tina made the most of life and they will be missed dearly by all. Always together in life, they are now inseparable in Heaven.
They are survived by their three children Michelle Petersen (husband Jorn), Donald Fitzmartin (wife Dawn), Glen Fitzmartin (wife Cynthia) and 12 grandchildren Hannah (husband Spencer), Nicholas, Collin, Connor, Madeleine, Ava, Isabella, Michael, Jack, Macey, Molly and Will. In addition Tina’s siblings, Sean Judge, Maura Patten, Micheal Judge (wife Bea), Noreen Griffin (husband Mike) and many cousins, nieces and nephews from New York and Ireland.
The visitation will be held at Calvary Hill North Chapel on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 2-6 pm, with the Holy Rosary being recited at 5 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10 am with a reception immediately following. The committal will take place at 2 pm at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Catholic Charities would be appreciated.
