Bobby J. Golden

Bob Golden passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024.

Bob was born in Trenton, Texas on October 8, 1936 to Lola Marie Golden and Cone Johnson Golden. He was the fourth of ten children.

Bob graduated from Sunset High School in 1955 with honors. He played on the city championship football team and was on the Sunset Bison Track Team at the state meet.

Bob received a scholarship from Southern Methodist University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Cox School of Business. Bob became a certified public accountant in 1959. He was a life member of the Texas Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Bob was Treasurer and Controller of Fox and Jacobs Construction Company until 1969 when he opened his certified public accounting practice. In 1971, he merged with Robert M. Allen, forming Allen & Golden. During this period, he and Mr. Allen shared an office with Senator William A. Blakley. Both men were instrumental in building Bob’s practice. After Mr. Allen passed, Bob practiced solo until 1988 when he joined Fox, Byrd & Golden. In 2003, Bob moved his practice to Preston Center as Golden, Dellinges & Redd, ultimately becoming Golden, Redd and Company. Bob retired from his firm in 2018.

Bob married Carol Stogner in 1955 and they had four children, Laurie Golden Dees, Robert Golden, Gary Golden, and Ginger Golden Tow. Carol passed away in 2014.

Bob and Marla Colquitt married in 1980. Bob and Marla are longtime members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church and founding members of the Park City Club. They lived at The Links at Land’s End on Lake Fork for many years while maintaining a home in Dallas. Bob and Marla traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, as well as throughout most of America.

Bob served on the board of several banks, business services, charities, and golf clubs. Alongside his philanthropic and professional commitments, he was deeply passionate about the game of golf. For years, he sponsored tournaments in Scottsdale, Las Vegas, and Biloxi. Many of Bob's clients and friends shared his love for the sport, and together they played rounds at some of the most beautiful courses in the country.

Bob loved his family, friends, and golfing buddies, but most of all, his partner in life, Marla.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cone and Bonnie, and sisters Frieda and Margaret. He is survived by his beloved Marla Golden, sisters Mary, Betty, and Carol, brothers Bryan and John, his four children Laurie Dees (and husband Kenneth), Robert Golden (and wife Amy), Gary Golden (and wife Carissa), and Ginger Tow (and husband Brent), two step-children Michael Mabry (and wife Amy) and Meredith Weber (and husband Austin), eleven grandchildren Colin Dees, Brent (and wife Arica), Bryan, and Cody Golden, Chandler Waite (and husband Matt) and Conor Vinzant (and husband Trey), Preston and Chase Tow, Peyton and Cole Mabry, Abby Weber, and great-granddaughter Emily Waite.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
