Bill graduated from Central High School in Fayetteville, Tennessee and then went on to major in Chemistry and Math at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Thereafter, he served in the U.S. Army for three years in Aniston, Alabama in the Chemical Corp School.
Bill worked as an Engineer for over 52 years, beginning his career at Texas Instruments and then on to Raytheon and while in California, was a founding member of Western Digital. He truly enjoyed his work and was honored to be placed on the Innovators Wall of Fame at Raytheon in recognition for his thirty patents. Also, Bill and Anne were founding members of Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas and he was selected to be a deacon both there and at Northside Church of Christ in Santa Ana, California.
He married his best friend and love of his life, Anne (McEndree) Ables on September 21, 1957 in Russellville, Kentucky. They shared 62 wonderful years together. During that time they had two daughters, Tori and Tracy. There wasn't a day that went by that Bill didn't make his family laugh.
Bill Ables could sing, he could make anything with his hands and he could surely make you laugh. He was happy everyday and woke up whistling. His favorite music was "old country"; Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Emmylou Harris. Bill loved traveling the world with Anne and spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchild and friends at Gulf Shores. He was an avid reader, woodworker, and enjoyed playing the banjo and guitar. There was never a better, kinder or a more gentle man.
Bill is survived by his wife, Anne Ables; daughter Tori Coyle; daughter Tracy Marmolejo; and son-in-law Henry Marmolejo; granddaughter Leigh Anne Landrum, grandson Andrew Landrum, grandson Keaton Coyle, grandson Kace Coyle, granddaughter-in-law Marina Coyle and great granddaughter Reya Coyle.
Bill was preceded in death by; father Eugene Ables and mother Delia Ables; sister Nona Towery and sister Mary Anderson.
