Billie Sue Speaks, age 87, passed away on March 16, 2023 in Mesquite, Texas. She was born on June 4, 1935 in Wylie, Texas to Albert and Lillian Smothermon. Billie Sue was raised in Wylie and Mesquite, Texas where she graduated from Mesquite High School in 1953. She was a wonderful mother, and had eight children she loved dearly. Billie enjoyed working in several fields throughout her life, including working as a radio broadcaster, at a nursing home, as an administrator, truck driver. She would go on to own and operate Ashley's Cafe in Mesquite until retirement.
In her spare time, Billie enjoyed going to garage sales, gossipping with friends, antiquing, her morning coffee with friends, and going to Las Vegas.
Her family and friends will always remember Billie as a hustler go-getter, her contagious sense of humor, being the garage sale queen that she was, and how she faced everything that came her way with bravery - she was one tough woman.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillian Smothermon; and sister, Vassa Marie. Billie is survived by her eight children, Tim Speaks, Aletia Speaks and Sue Dinino, Debra and Gary Stephens, Linda Strait, Donna Speaks, Kimberly Lyle, and Becky Speaks; sister, Anita Smothermon; niece, Nicole Reschke; nephew, Johnathan Smothermon; 7 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Special Acknowledgment to granddaughter Ashley Speaks Carroll, who was raised by Billie Sue Speaks, her grandmother, where there was a special bond.
