Bettye went Home, to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven, for all eternity, on May 2, 2012. Bettye was a longtime member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, engaged in various service roles at the church, and then attended Prestonwood Baptist with her son, in her later years. Everyone loved Bettye. With her infectious smile, positive uplifting attitude and genuine love for others, everyone who knew her loved her, and now miss her greatly, more than words can express. Bettye was happily married for 57 years to Sam D. Emerick who passed in August 2006. Their wonderful daughter Alice Emerick Klintworth preceded her in death in 1999. Bettye is survived by her son Sammy Emerick and his wife Karen, of Dallas Texas, her grandson Chad Reed of Lenexa Kansas, granddaughters Brittany Bullen of Salt Lake Utah and Kellie Van Atta of Thousand Oaks, California, six great-grandchildren, and surviving brothers and sisters in Arkansas. Bettye lived her final few years in different care facilities having suffered a major stroke in April 2007, but mom was a fighter, and her health continued to generally slowly improve until about a year ago. Many devoted, wonderful friends and family continued to come and visit their friend Bettye, right until the end. A private graveside service will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest on June 2, 2012 followed by a public memorial service for Bettye at HPUMC at 10:00 am on June 2, 2012. Rejoice in mother’s life; her chains are gone, she’s been set free.
