Betty Lou Stephenson was born on Sunday, July 19th, 1936, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. She was welcomed into this world by her loving parents Eldred and Irene Stephenson, along with her sister, Billie Bost. Betty also had a younger brother, Dannie Stephenson. Betty grew up in Dallas where she eventually met her future husband Dee Smartt, at Oak Cliff Church of Christ. Betty and Dee had 4 children together: Cathy Smartt, Kenneth Smartt, Eddie Smartt, and Sherri Smartt. Betty was briefly remarried to John Zaro. Betty never had any more of her own children, but instead was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Kim Rogers, Justin Collins, Keshia Arellano, Morgan Smartt, Michael Smartt, Kendall Price, and Alexis Monroe, along with 8 great grandchildren: Kaylie Rogers, Chloe Rogers, River Rogers, Jason Smartt, Lilly Smartt, Pearl Arellano, and Jackson Monroe. All of which she loved just like her own. Betty developed a passion for motherhood and dedicated her life to caring for her family. She worked hard throughout the years as a carhop at Kip’s Big Boy, a manager at Olan Mills, and a cashier at Home Depot. Betty was a beacon of light to many, and sadly, on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023, Betty Lou Zaro passed away in Rockwall TX at the age of 86. Her absence will be felt by everyone she knew, but her strength will live on.
