Betty Francis Smith, 93, passed away May 25, 2017. She was born in Mabank, Texas May 6, 1924 in Dallas, Texas to Ira Franklin and Mabel Clara Warren. Betty graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1942. She was a mother, housewife and Den Mother to Cub Scout Troop #91 in Dallas for 5 years. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale and loved to travel. Raymond and Betty traveled extensively to different states, Maine being the only state she did not make it to. After Raymond’s passing, she traveled to Branson, Missouri several times with friends and family. Betty also took several cruises, her favorite being one to Alaska. She played cards and dominos with several of her friends, loved crosswords and putting together puzzles. Betty also participated in the Red Hat Club-Evergreen Chapter in Mesquite, Texas.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lestel Smith; daughter, Becky Sue Smith and parents, Ira Franklin Warren and Mabel Clara Warren. She is survived by her sons, Howard Smith and wife, Brenda of Emory, Texas and Melvin Smith and wife, Tonie of Mesquite, Texas; grandchildren, Richard Smith and wife, Cheryl of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Keith Smith of Forney, Texas, Becky Gant and husband, Steven of Canton, Texas, Brent Smith and wife Rebecca of Kaufman, Texas and great-grandchildren, Lynsey McAlister-Smith, Jakob Vargas, Kaitlin Smith, Lane Smith, Levi Gant and Sawyer Smith.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 31 at 2:00pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home with visitation prior to services at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
