Betty Gilden Cohn passed away on December 5th, 2018 in Dallas, TX. Betty was born in Fort Worth to Helen and Morris Gilden on March 2nd, 1928, and was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Robert Leon Cohn, her sister Dorothy Resnick and her brother Jack Gilden. In addition to her daughter, Leslie Shelton (Jim) of Dallas; grandson Clay Foor and step-grandsons Craig, Ron and Wade Shelton, Betty is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins and their families including Diana Musslewhite, Chase Musslewhite and Michele Resnick. My mother was a brilliant and beautifully stunning redhead with many talents including a stint singing live on the radio. Always a straight A student and teacher’s pet, she skipped two grades before graduating from Paschal High School in Fort Worth. We will miss so many things: her phenomenal sense of humor and how she made us laugh, her heart of gold, her wise advice, her loving kindness and generosity, her spaghetti and meatballs, frequent shopping trips to NorthPark and her sense of fashion. A day hardly went by that she wasn’t dressed to the nine. Mom loved telling the story of how she met Dad at a party that my grandmother forced her to attend on a cold rainy evening, and how he eventually followed her out to California (where she had relocated with her family) to propose. She enjoyed her life and traveling with Dad (an ex-fighter pilot) who flew her around the country in a single-engine aircraft as a hobby. Mom was dedicated and devoted to helping Dad run his successful medical practice as an anesthesiologist at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. She managed his office daily for 30 years overseeing every aspect of his practice outside of the operating room. They retired to Lakeway, Austin for 17 years (to be near me and their grandkids) before we all eventually moved back to Dallas. It’s a lovely thought to think that Mom is back with Dad and they are flying throughout the heavens. Betty will be laid to rest next to Bob in a private service at Sparkman/ Hillcrest, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
