Bernard Bernie Don Donald Humphrey

Bernard Donald (Bernie Don) Humphrey of Richardson, Texas was born in Methuen, Massachusetts, to Bernard Donald Humphrey and Selma Constance Brown on July 24, 1939 and died September 4, 2017, after an eleven year struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 54 year, Marie Rita Quintal, four children: Michael (Samantha) Humphrey of Rockwell, Texas, Linda (Derek) Smith of Brownwood, Texas, Kathleen (Bruce) Beattie of Spring, Texas, Jeanne (Paul) Head, of Richardson, Texas. Eleven grandchildren: Ashley Peña (Jaymn) Judd, Sean Humphrey, Layne-Nicole Smith, Amanda Beattie, Ryan Head, Jacob Beattie, Emily Head, Colette Smith, Madelynn Beattie, Amelia Smith, and Evelyn Head. One great-grandchild: Maddix Judd, brother: David (Jennifer) Humphrey of Stafford, Virgina, sister-in-law, Claire (Bob) Bedard of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Lorraine Roy of Coppell, Texas, several nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.

Bernie was educated in Lawrence, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, and Merrimack College in Andover, Massachusetts. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Finance Clerk, being honorably discharged in 1960.

Bernie and his family moved to Richardson, Texas in 1978 with Harris Corporation. From 1993 he for Fujitsu, in Richardson, Texas until his retirement in 2000.

Bernie loved his family and friends and enjoyed volunteering. After his retirement he spent many hours working the Food Pantry at The Network of Community Ministries in Richardson and delivering Meals on Wheels for the Visiting Nurse Association in Dallas, as well as many hours as Usher Coordinator for St. Luke Lutheran Church, as well as on the Yard Birds Crew.

Bernie was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2006. The first ever drug for this disease was released in 2014 and Bernie was placed on it. The Caring Voice Coalition gave him a grant for this medication in 2015 and it until December 2016. He and his family would like to thank Caring Voice Coalition for this assistance, as we feel it slowed the disease sufficiently so as to allow him to see and enjoy his eleventh grandchild, Evelyn Head and his first great-grandchild, Maddix Judd. These two gave him immense joy in the last years of his life.

Funeral will be under the auspices of Ted Dickey Funeral Home 8011 George Bush Turnpike Dallas, Texas 75252. Viewing will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 from 6-8PM. Funeral Service will be at 11AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church 1210 West Beltline Road, Richardson, Texas with Pastor Mary Kaiser Officiating. A reception will follow funeral service in the church Gathering Area. Burial will be held at a later date at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
